Maple Leafs, Kings, and Predators Should Pull Off 3-Team Trade
February 18, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
The 2023-24 season has been a tale of two halves for the Los Angeles Kings. After starting 16-4-3, the team has just nine wins in their past 28 games, pushing them back into the wild card race. For the Nashville Predators, they have found struggles in all aspects of their lineup and sit considerably back in that same wild card race.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are well positioned to make a playoff run but still seek help defensively, especially with John Klingberg being on the long-term injured reserve (LTIR) and out for the season. With the three teams all in different mindsets approaching the trade deadline, they could become great trade partners to help each side.
Oilers Reportedly Making Strong Push for Flames’ Chris Tanev
February 18, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers have been having one of the most interesting 2023-24 campaigns. They decided to fire their coaching staff after a 3-9-1 start and swapped Jack Campbell for Calvin Pickard after Campbell’s atrocious start. Now, after a 16-game winning streak, the Oilers have their sights set on making a splash at the trade deadline and adding assets in hopes of making a deep playoff run.
While the Oilers have yet to make any big moves leading up to the deadline, they will likely be looking to get more active on the trade front in hopes of getting the jump on some other teams who will also be looking to make improvements to their roster. The Oilers have supposedly been getting active on the trade front in recent days, and it’s being reported that they have been making a strong push for Calgary Flames’ defender Chris Tanev.
What Canadiens Could Get from Avalanche in an Allen Trade
February 18, 2024 by Ryan Szporer
Montreal Canadiens goalie Jake Allen may have lost 4-3 to the Washington Capitals on Feb. 17. However, he certainly looked better than he did in his last game, a 7-2 defeat to the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 11. It’s a step in the right direction if the Habs want to build up his value ahead of the March 8 trade deadline, and, they should, as he should arguably be the top priority for general manager Kent Hughes.
That’s why conflicting reports of an Allen-to-Colorado Avalanche trade last week must have been frustrating for Canadiens fans. They were theoretically this close to move him only for nothing to happen. Hypothetically though? If something were to get done between the two teams? What could the Habs realistically get in exchange?
JG Pageau Is the Islanders’ Perfect Trade Chip at 2024 Deadline
February 18, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
In February 2020, the New York Islanders acquired and extended Jean-Gabriel Pageau to a six-year contract that ends after the 2025-26 NHL season. In his time as an Islander, he has been a key contributor to the team’s middle six and special teams and has been on two deep playoff runs that have ended in the Eastern Conference Final. However, he is now 31 years of age and seems to be losing his role on the team.
2 Trade Destinations for Maple Leafs’ Timothy Liljegren
February 18, 2024 by Spencer Lazary
It is officially trade season in the NHL, and with the trade deadline right around the corner on March 8, it means a ton of speculation. Well, for the Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager (GM) Brad Treliving, it means trying to find a way to improve the lineup. It could use some work; the defense core has struggled, and there has been next to no secondary scoring since the turn of the calendar.
Unfortunately, to better his club, Treliving will need to part with a few pieces to be salary cap compliant. A few names come to mind to help move out money:Â Timothy Liljegren, Calle Jarnkrok, and David Kampf. All of them have fairly minimal cap hits, but for a team like the Maple Leafs, it is money in, money out, especially at the trade deadline.
5 Thoughts on the Blackhawks’ Games Since Bedard’s Return
February 18, 2024 by Gail Kauchak
It’s been an exciting few days for the Chicago Blackhawks. That’s because Connor Bedard returned to the lineup after being out 14 games and 40 days (like we weren’t counting or anything) following jaw surgery. To the delight of every fan at the United Center, Bedard made a surprise early return against the Pittsburgh Penguins and Bedard’s childhood idol, Sidney Crosby, on Feb. 15.
Unfortunately, the team couldn’t find a win against the Penguins, but they snapped an eight-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 17) with a big win over the Ottawa Senators. Let’s get to some thoughts from the last two games, and the Bedard effect.
