Bruins Recent Struggles Are a Real Cause for Concern
Dropping three out of their last five games is a troubling sign for the Bruins
The NHL trade deadline is on March 8. Last season Boston Bruins general manager (GM) Don Sweeney went all-in at the deadline to help improve his teams’ chances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He acquired Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals and Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, those moves didn’t stop Boston from suffering a historic first-round exit from the postseason at the hands of the Florida Panthers. The biggest loss they endured was captain Patrice Bergeron retiring, the heart and soul of the team.
Coming out of the All-Star Break and sitting on top in the Atlantic Division, the Bruins had a chance to bank some points in the standings with a seven-game homestand, but so far in five games, they have gone just 1-3-1 and picked up just three out of a possible 10 points. Because of that, the Panthers have tied them at the top of the Atlantic Division.
