Senators Need to be Buyers at the Trade Deadline
Developing a winning culture is far more significant that a couple of draft picks. They need to learn to win.
Winning in the NHL isn’t as easy as it can be in the EA Sports NHL franchise. While roster construction and the talent on the team are two very important matters, culture is an unmeasurable, yet crucial aspect of the game. The Ottawa Senators have spent over half of a decade far away from a winning culture, and being buyers at the 2023-24 Trade Deadline is something they need to do.
After spending a first-round draft pick for the past few years, the Senators have struggled to take advantage of that. First was the acquisition of Alex DeBrincat. That only lasted a year and the Senators’ hand was forced and were only able to get a mediocre package in return. The other acquisition was Jakob Chychrun, who has been playing well for the Senators, but his name has re-entered the rumor mill, rightfully or not. It makes sense for the Senators to have to move on from one of their left-handed defensemen as they have the three-headed monster of Chychrun, Jake Sanderson, and Thomas Chabot. They all make too much money and there isn’t room for the three natural lefties.
