Hilary Knight Earns "Player of the Rivalry Series"
A different version of the Most Valuable Player Award given to the best player in the Rivalry Series
Team Canada may have come away with the Rivalry Series win, but a member of Team USA earns the right to be called the “player of the series.” This award is essentially the same as the most valuable player, with the only exception being it goes to a player on the losing team, which typically doesn’t happen in sports.
She’s a highly regarded member of Team USA and recently won the first-ever IIHF Female Player of the Year award. Whenever Team USA is mentioned, she’s one of the first names many think of; she’s an Olympian and is captain of the Professional Women’s Hockey League team in Boston. The Player of the Series goes to Hilary Knight.
She played in five of the seven Rivalry Series games and led all players with six points. She scored two goals and assisted on four others to tally those points. Alex Carpenter, the second-place player, was also from Team USA, and she had four points. Two of Knight’s assists also came while on the power play, something Team USA struggled with a lot in the final game of the Series.
