Devils Players Who Flames Could Target in Markstrom Deal
February 14, 2024 by Rupert McDonald
The Calgary Flames have a number of players who they may move ahead of the trade deadline. The most obvious candidates are Noah Hanifin and Chris Tanev, who are both set to become unrestricted free agents in the offseason. Other names, such as Blake Coleman, have been mentioned as well, but no player has been brought up recently as much as Jacob Markstrom.
Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli reported on Tuesday morning that Flames general manager Craig Conroy asked Markstrom if he would be willing to waive his no-movement clause to go to the New Jersey Devils, and the 34-year-old obliged. Though talks between the two teams have died down in recent days, they could very well pick back up before the March 8 deadline. If they do, here are a few young pieces the Flames may look to target in order to help build for the future.
2024 NHL Trade Deadline: Predicting Where Each Top Target Goes
February 14, 2024 by Jim Parsons
As the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline approaches, a few names have been removed from the trade bait board. Nikita Zadorov went to the Vancouver Canucks early. Not long after, he was followed by Elias Lindholm. Making sure they didn’t miss out, the most recent big name moved was Sean Monahan to the Winnipeg Jets. Still, there are plenty of big names out there. Let’s take a look at the top targets and predict where they will land.
Red Wings: 3 Biggest Needs Ahead of 2024 Trade Deadline
February 14, 2024 by Devin Little
With under a month to go until the NHL Trade Deadline, the Detroit Red Wings find themselves in the thick of the playoff race in the Eastern Conference. They rank sixth in the conference in points-percentage, and with 27 wins through 51 games, they are on pace to soar past the 35 wins they collected last season. If the team gives general manager Steve Yzerman confidence in investing in the present, there are a number of areas he could look to improve upon. The Red Wings, despite their success, are still a flawed team, but the trade deadline is an opportunity for them to patch up their holes and address their depth ahead of their final push for the playoffs.
If the Red Wings do become buyers at the trade deadline, these are the types of players they will want to pursue.
Morgan Rielly’s Suspension Should Motivate Maple Leafs
February 14, 2024 by Peter Baracchini
The story line lately surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs have been the actions of top defender Morgan Rielly after an altercation towards the end of their game against the Ottawa Senators. Rielly was ejected after cross-checking Senators forward Ridly Greig in the head after he scored an empty net goal on a slapshot.
This whole situation created a stir on the ice with Greig and Rielly took exception to his method of scoring. Overall, it was a bush league move on both sides. While the response from Rielly was excessive, it was warranted to send a message that it won’t be tolerated. Even head coach Sheldon Keefe thought the response was suitable.
Juraj Slafkovsky’s Growth Lifting Canadiens Top Line
February 14, 2024 by Blain Potvin
The Montreal Canadiens are not officially eliminated from the playoff race, however, it’s clear with the trade of Sean Monahan that they are sellers, and it is only a matter of time before they are knocked out. But that doesn’t mean there is nothing to look forward to this season. Fans can still enjoy entertaining games, but they can also take notice of the development of the young players on the roster.
Under general manager (GM) Kent Hughes there has been an emphasis on individual development, and with the help of development director Adam Nicholas, fans are getting a glimpse of what is to come. In the case of Juraj Slafkovsky, it has been a meteoric rise. What is the difference between now and last season? What impact has he had on the team?
Oilers & Islanders Should Swap Former Top Prospects
February 14, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
From the start of the season, the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers have had their fair share of struggles. For the Islanders, a constant battle with losing streaks and blown leads have led them out of a playoff spot. The Oilers had an embarrassing start to the season before hiring Kris Knoblauch to be their head coach.
Since then, the team has catapulted up the standings, sitting third in the Pacific Division as one of the hottest teams in hockey. Despite the recent success, some players are still struggling to find their footing.
