Hurricanes’ Cap Situation Could Force a Martin Necas Trade

Recently on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek discussed that the Carolina Hurricanes could be forced into moving on from 25-year-old forward Martin Necas. The forward has had a strong season, recording 24 goals and 53 points in 73 games for the Stanley Cup hopefuls. However, due to salary concerns, he may be the odd man out this offseason.

Nikita Kucherov’s MVP Case Gets Support From P.K. Subban

The Tampa Bay Lightning’s Nikita Kucherov is locked in a tight race for the most points in the NHL with Nathan McKinnon of the Colorado Avalanche and Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers. While the race for the Art Ross Trophy is decided on the ice, the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the player who is judged to be the most valuable to his team, is decided by a vote of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association in all NHL cities at the end of the season. Recently, one hockey analyst made a strong case that this award should go to Kucherov.

As he eyes unrestricted free agency next summer, it’s likely he wants to stay with the Maple Leafs, but there are questions about whether he’ll explore the market and if the team can afford him.
