Canucks Corner: Matt's Latest Musings on What's Happening With the Franchise
Stumbling into the playoffs, re-signing Joshua long term, Demko or Hughes as the MVP, and more.
From signings, trades, prospects, injury and lineup news, and everything in between, here are my latest musings on the team we all love, cheer on, and get frustrated by on a nightly basis.
Legitimate Concerns Heading into the Playoffs
The Vancouver Canucks have the elusive “x” in the standings, but they are not playing like a playoff team right now. In fact, their record has been only .500 since the All-Star Break and they haven’t beaten a team currently in the playoff picture since March 9 when they shut out the Winnipeg Jets 5-0. Since then, they are 0-4-1 and have been outscored 22-12 in losses to the Colorado Avalanche, LA Kings (twice), Dallas Stars, and Vegas Golden Knights.
The biggest concern is that the Canucks might face either the Kings or Golden Knights in the first round, and they have looked like a bottom-feeder rather than a Stanley Cup contender in almost every game against them. They can’t seem to figure out the 1-3-1 defensive scheme of the Kings and the Golden Knights manhandled them 6-3 in their last game, with Vegas jumping out to a 4-1 lead in the first period.
