Canadiens’ Excess Defencemen Both a Good & Bad Thing
May 2, 2024 by Trege Wilson
The Montreal Canadiens’ season is over, and the players have cleaned out their lockers and headed to their summer homes. There were no playoffs this season, as expected, but there was still plenty to be hopeful for. One of those positives is the abundance of NHL-ready defencemen in the Habs’ system. Some, if not most, are talented enough to be in the top four. This is excellent, except you usually only dress six defencemen in a game and carry seven or eight on a team. If the Canadiens want what’s best for the team, some players must be moved to make room.
Will Patrick Roy Seek More Player Control as Islanders Head Coach?
May 2, 2024 by Karine Hains
When Patrick Roy was hired as the New York Islanders’ new head coach in January, he was sporting a lustrous and luxurious beard. It was gone in the wink of an eye out of respect for general manager Lou Lamoriello’s facial hair policy. It makes me wonder if Roy will be as quick to agree with all of the GM’s decisions. Lamoriello decided to stand pat at the trade deadline, but after the Isles were eliminated in five games by the Carolina Hurricanes in Round 1 of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, it’s obvious the roster was not good enough.
