Senators Won’t Be a Playoff Team This Season

Many fans say that the Ottawa Senators will make the playoffs next spring. I wouldn’t bet on that.
I’m not saying that the Senators’ president of hockey operations and general manager (GM) Steve Staios hasn’t made his club better this offseason, though. In fact, they’re in a better situation to compete for a berth in the playoffs than they’ve been in years. It’s just that I don’t think they’re a playoff team yet.
Senators’ Two Biggest X-Factors for 2024-25

The Ottawa Senators are looking to snap their seven-year playoff drought in 2024-25, but to do that, they are going to need to be a much better team in a lot of aspects. General manager Steve Staios did a good job of bringing in players to help out in the areas that were clear struggles, the rest of the work needs to come from the players. When it comes to big milestones, the Ottawa Senators aren’t often on any big radars. That’s just the reality of a rebuild. For the past several seasons, they’ve been one of the youngest rosters in the NHL, and while it’s exciting to see their rising stars hit the 100-game mark, 4,090 others have also played at least that many. It also hasn’t helped that Ottawa hasn’t had much luck with free agents and trade targets in recent years, so even those players who could hit significant milestones don’t often do so in Ottawa.
