Now that we’ve covered the top 50 defensemen in the NHL entering the 2024-25 season as well as the 50 best forwards, it’s only right to give the men between the pipes some love. Here, we lower the count to the 35 best goaltenders in the league.

In descending order, we look at the top 35 goaltenders for the 2024-25 campaign. Included will be some stats for context, which are the following:

  • Stats rundown: Save percentage (SV%), goals-against average (GAA), win-loss record, goals saved above average (GSAA), goals saved above expected (GSAx)

While some of these netminders might have had a poor showing to their standards, it’s important to recognize that a sample size of one season is far too small to judge a goaltender on. It’s the most unpredictable position in the sport—let’s rank it.

35 — Anthony Stolarz (Toronto Maple Leafs)

Based on the numbers, this is far too low for Stolarz. But at the end of the day, he was a backup netminder in an exceptional situation in 2023-24. He should be a high-end backup option for the Maple Leafs this season, but regression is likely.

2023-24 Stats:

.925 SV%, 2.03 GAA, 16-7-2, 15.0 GSAA, 21.3 GSAx

34 — Devon Levi (Buffalo Sabres)

The Sabres shifted their high-end offensive style to cater toward defense, which was obviously beneficial for their play between the pipes. Levi was good for them in moderation and strong in the American Hockey League (AHL), but we’ll have to see a bit more before moving him up this list.

2023-24 Stats:

.899 SV%, 3.10 GAA, 10-8-2, Minus-2.6 GSAA, 4.9 GSAx

33 — Petr Mrazek (Chicago Blackhawks)
