If the Calgary Flames are to have any chance at success this coming season, they will need some unexpected players to put together strong years. This is a team in the early stages of a rebuild, and with that comes low expectations. What it also presents, however, is plenty of opportunity.

Flames Setting Wolf up for Failure in 2024-25

While there are several different options, the general consensus is that the Calgary Flames will give Dustin Wolf at least half the starts for the 2024-25 season. It’s a tall task for the recently signed goaltender, who has just 18 games of experience under his belt. However, the recent trade of Jacob Markstrom indicates management feels he’s ready for the opportunity.

While anything can happen in a league with such parity, the consensus is that the Calgary Flames will struggle in 2024-25. Though general manager Craig Conroy has said tanking isn’t part of his plan, the struggles are somewhat by design as the organization heads for a rebuild in hopes of long-term success.

Flames Have Several Goaltending Options Following Wolf’s Signing

The Calgary Flames got one of their many restricted free agent (RFA) signings out of the way on Tuesday (July 30), as they announced that they agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Dustin Wolf. This was by far and away the most important deal of the bunch to get done, as the 23-year-old is seen as one of the main building blocks for the future of the organization.
