Corey Perry Granted Permission To Play In NHL Again
January 10, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
Fans around the world were shocked to learn about Corey Perry getting removed from the Chicago Blackhawks’ roster after an incident occurred with the team. His contract was terminated by the Blackhawks on Nov. 30, 2023, after getting removed from the active roster just eight days prior.
He went unclaimed on waivers, and the team released a statement saying it determined he had “engaged in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of both the terms of his standard player’s contract and the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”
Trevor Zegras and the Canadiens Would be a Great Fit
January 10, 2024 by Blain Potvin
With the Philadelphia Flyers shocking the hockey world by moving on from their 2022 fifth-overall selection, Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks for Jamie Drysdale, there are now rumblings that the Ducks’ star center, Trevor Zegras, is now available on the trade market.
It is no secret that the Montreal Canadiens are in desperate need of some elite offensive skill at forward. General manager (GM) Kent Hughes could be on the market to fill that need and has been criticized for not pulling the trigger on a move at the 2023 Entry Draft table. This is a look at what he had available to him back then, why he chose not to fill the need, and how Zegras could fit with the Canadiens now if he were to be targeted to help advance Montreal’s rebuild.
Oilers Should Acquire Flyers Defenceman Nick Seeler
January 10, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers have turned their season around after their terrible start to the 2023-24 campaign and have found themselves in a solid position as they fight their way back up the Pacific Division standings.
With the addition of Kris Knoblauch seemingly turning the Oilers’ season around after the team chose to fire Jay Woodcroft, they have found themselves being considered Stanley Cup contenders again. While they’ve been strong, they still have some small holes to fill and one of them is their defensive depth. One name they should look at is Philadelphia Flyers’ defenceman Nick Seeler.
Dobson & Hughes Show Gap Between Good & Elite Defensemen
January 10, 2024 by Mike Fink
On the blue line, this gap was on full display. Noah Dobson is having a good season but isn’t worthy of an All-Star nod. In fact, according to the recent voting data, he isn’t on the list as one of the top 15 skaters worthy of a final spot, a surprise to Islanders fans but not to NHL fans at large.
Quinn Hughes was voted as the Canucks All-Star and on top of that, he is one of the favorites to win the Norris Trophy this season. The two defensemen showed how far Dobson still has to go to enter the Norris conversation and that top tier of the league’s elite defensemen.
Winnipeg Jets’ Defensive Dominance Reaching Historical Levels
January 10, 2024 by Connor Hrabchak
The Winnipeg Jets are playing historically well in the defensive zone, which has led to them gaining sole possession of the #1 spot in the NHL. The Jets continued their roll through the competition as they are fresh off of a 5-0 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
There are a multitude of factors that play into this, and a handful of records that they have either already set, or are close to achieving. Here’s a rundown of the Jets’ defensive dominance, the records they are setting, and how they have built a defensive powerhouse as we approach the midway point of the season.
Sidney Crosby Having Most Impressive Season Yet
January 10, 2024 by Jordan Orth
Since getting drafted first overall in the 2005 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Sidney Crosby has had sky-high expectations placed upon him. Throughout his 19 seasons in the NHL, he has been able to live up to and exceed those expectations while becoming one of the Penguins’ best players of all time and one of the league’s best players of all time. After a career that has seen several injuries and ups and downs, Crosby could very easily be in the middle of the most impressive season of his career this season.
