5(ish) Questions With Devils Defenseman Colin Miller
The veteran two-way defenseman gives insight into his past and his game
For the sake of context, these questions were posed the day after Colin Miller made his regular-season debut for New Jersey. (Some questions and answers were edited for clarity)
Colin Miller is coming off his best offensive game as a New Jersey Devil, having scored his first two goals on Saturday night against Vancouver. After the game when asked about breaking through on the scoresheet, Miller said, “That’s sort of how it goes, you don’t score for a while then you get a couple, it was certainly nice to see some go in.”
Now for our exclusive Q&A with Colin Miller:
THW: It’s gotta be fun for you to get back in games; for fans who haven't seen you play much other than last night, what can they expect?
CM: I see my role as to provide stability, I think that, you know, we have seven great defensemen on this team, but you know, I want to be available to play in all situations and just help out wherever I can.
THW: Favorite city on the road to visit?
CM: Vegas is always fun. I like Vancouver too, it's always a good time there.
THW: You have one of the greatest stats I've ever heard. You won the AHL Fastest Skater and Hardest Shot competition. I’m not aware of anyone else who has done that. Which one means more to you?
CM: Probably the shot. I think it has slowed down a bit as I've gotten older but I still try to get the shot up there.
THW: What's the fastest your shot has been clocked at?
CM: I think that year was 105, but that was a long time ago. I don't know if I could still do that.
THW: Who was your favorite player growing up?
CM: Jarome Iginla I really liked how he played. He just could score goals, could fight, and play with grit. Obviously just such a classy individual also.
THW: Is there anybody you model your game after?
CM: I think Rob Blake was always a guy that I really liked. I don't know if I modeled my game quite like that. But you know, I always like how he played, you know, throw a hip check; he had a great shot. He was just a fun guy to watch.
