Patrick Kane’s Return to Chicago Couldn’t Have Ended Any Better
February 28, 2024 by Hunter Crowther
No one was quite sure what the vibes would be when Patrick Kane — who helped the Chicago Blackhawks win three Stanley Cup championships between 2010 and 2015 and scored over 1,200 points and finished second on the franchise’s all-time scoring list — returned to Chicago wearing a Detroit Red Wings uniform on Feb. 25.
Stars Acquire Chris Tanev From Flames
February 28, 2024 by Matthew Zator
The Calgary Flames continue to sell as they have now traded Chris Tanev to the Dallas Stars for a 2024 second-round pick, a conditional 2026 third-round pick (contingent on the Stars advancing to the Stanley Cup Final), and prospect Artem Grushnikov. The Flames are also retaining 50 percent of Tanev’s salary. The New Jersey Devils were also involved in the deal as they will receive a 2026 fourth-round pick from the Stars to retain a further 50 percent of Tanev’s salary and will send the rights to unsigned goaltender Cole Brady to the Stars.
Oilers Would Be Smart to Avoid Mantha Trade With Capitals
February 28, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
While Edmonton Oilers fans would like to forget about the beginning of their 2023-24 campaign, it happened and it exposed some major needs for the team heading down the stretch this season. While they have cleaned up their game and have found themselves near the top of the Pacific Division, after a massive 16-game winning streak helped push them up the standings, there are still a few holes they need to fill. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them try and trade for a goaltender, improve their defensive depth, or add a top-six forward before the 2024 Trade Deadline, but they have been quiet recently. With only minimal money to play with at the deadline, they will need to be smart about who they bring in to help them for a Stanley Cup run.

Since the All-Star Break, the Boston Bruins have struggled, to say the least. Holding onto leads, and struggles on the power play are just a few of the struggles that Jim Montgomery’s team is going through. If there is a way to sum up their struggles, it was on their recent four-game road trip where they struggled on the man advantage and holding onto third-period leads. It’s becoming a big concern at this point.
Blues Shouldn’t Rush Inevitable Buchnevich Trade
February 28, 2024 by Stephen Ground
When it comes to trade rumors surrounding St. Louis Blues’ star winger Pavel Buchnevich, the question seems to be “when,” not “if.” The 28-year-old is in his third season with St. Louis and on the penultimate year of a contract that pays him just $5.8 million per season. Based on the 0.989 points per game he’s put up over the past three seasons, that contract is a steal, and almost any competitive team would love to add the Russian to their roster. The Blues have to trade him — they can’t sign another aging veteran to a long-term deal, and Buchnevich will be 30 before his next contract kicks in — but contrary to popular belief, it does not have to happen before March 8, 2024, NHL Trade Deadline.
4 Devils’ Coaching Candidates if Lindy Ruff Is Fired
February 28, 2024 by JP Gambatese
The New Jersey Devils began the season as a consensus Stanley Cup contender. With nearly 60 games in the bank, they’re not even in a playoff position — they’re five points behind the Philadelphia Flyers in the Metropolitan Division and five points back of the Tampa Bay Lightning for the second wild-card spot. To be fair, there have been quite a few legitimate reasons for the Devils’ standings woes — they’ve dealt with a plethora of injuries this season, including significant time missed by star players Jack Hughes, Timo Meier, and Dougie Hamilton, a lot of which came with a good few games of overlap.
