Recapping Kent Hughes’s First 3 Deadlines as Canadiens GM
March 11, 2024 by Trege Wilson
The Montreal Canadiens had a quiet 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, but a successful one. They were able to fix their three-goalie issue, and general manager (GM) Kent Hughes proved he sticks to his guns and won’t make a trade unless he feels it will improve the team. After three trade deadlines, Hughes is becoming a hard negotiator and improving as a GM every season. Here is a look back at his deadline history and how they are helping to shape the Canadiens’ future.
NHL 2023-24 Power Rankings: Week 23
March 11, 2024 by Eugene Helfrick
Heading into the final days before the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, I can honestly say I never would have guessed what happened. First, we saw the New Jersey Devils fire head coach Lindy Ruff less than a year after fans apologized to him. While most agreed that the move was going to happen, it was still a bit of a surprise to see a coaching change this late in the season, especially when the Devils were selling at the deadline anyway. Perhaps this was just ripping off the band-aid so New Jersey could give Travis Green a test run, or it may have been a case of a lost locker room that Ruff couldn’t get back.
Red Wings’ Berggren Enters Critical Point with Organization
March 11, 2024 by Devin Little
In a season headlined by a ton of new faces such as Alex DeBrincat, Shayne Gostisbehere, J.T. Compher and even Patrick Kane, a lot of chatter surrounding the Detroit Red Wings pertained to a lesser-known forward outside of Detroit: Jonatan Berggren.

Oilers Roster Pushed to Keep Shopped Trade Deadline D-Man
March 11, 2024 by Jim Parsons
The Edmonton Oilers were rumored to be in the mix on several trade deadline conversations. Ultimately, what they chose to do was add depth in the form of Adam Henrique, Sam Carrick, and Troy Stecher to go along with their earlier signing of Corey Perry. Time will tell if it was enough, but Holland toyed with other deals that he couldn’t make, or elected not to.
Blue Jackets’ Tarasov Showing Signs of Being Number-One Goalie
March 11, 2024 by Mark Scheig
The Columbus Blue Jackets face a multitude of questions as the 2023-24 season winds down. Most of these questions focus on what the future will look like. Perhaps at the top of the question’s list from an on-ice perspective is who will be the Blue Jackets’ number-one goalie in 2024-25 and beyond? There is no definitive answer to that question with just 18 games left to play this season.
Maple Leafs’ Dewar Brings Missing Element to the Team
March 11, 2024 by Peter Baracchini
It’s official, the NHL Trade Deadline has come and gone. While many anticipated the Toronto Maple Leafs try to do something big, they did most of their shopping in advance, bringing in size and a strong defensive presence in Ilya Lyubushkin and Joel Edmundson. With talk about bringing in another right shot defenseman, they went and addressed their bottom-six on deadline day, acquiring Connor Dewar from the Minnesota Wild. Â
