Hurricanes Get Guentzel & Smith for Bunting, Prospects & Picks
March 8, 2024 by Jacob Billington
Looking to make a run at the 2024 postseason, the Carolina Hurricanes have added some significant scoring talent to their already deep lineup by bringing in Jake Guentzel and Ty Smith from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Michael Bunting, prospects Ville Koivunen, Vasili Ponomarev, Cruz Lucius, a conditional 2024 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2024 fifth-round draft pick.
Grading the Deadline Addition of Troy Stecher for the Oilers
March 7, 2024 by Jim Parsons
In a move aimed at fortifying their defensive depth, the Edmonton Oilers have acquired defenseman Troy Stecher from the Arizona Coyotes. The deal, announced by the Oilers, includes a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, with Edmonton parting ways with their fourth-round selection in the 2027 Draft. The move, while not an upgrade over any of the blueliners they have in their current top six addresses a need for more puck-moving capabilities and offers options in the event of injuries or depth issues.
Golden Knights Have Elite Blue Line After Noah Hanifin Trade
March 7, 2024 by Ben Fisher
Once again, the Vegas Golden Knights are at the forefront of the NHL Trade Deadline. One day after addressing their forward corps with the addition of Anthony Mantha, the Golden Knights capped off a busy Wednesday of trade activity across the league by landing the top defenseman on the market. General manager Kelly McCrimmon acquired Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames for a conditional 2025 first-round pick, conditional 2025 third-round pick, and defenseman Daniil Miromanov, while also sending a 2024 fifth-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers to absorb 25% of Hanifin’s salary.
Maple Leafs Acquire Joel Edmundson From the Capitals
March 7, 2024 by Justin Giampietro
Similar to the deal for Ilya Lyubushkin that opened the trade deadline festivities on Feb. 29, the Toronto Maple Leafs acquired another veteran defenseman to add depth for the postseason. They acquired 6-foot-5, left-handed defender Joel Edmundson from the Washington Capitals on Thursday for a 2024 third-round draft pick (via the New York Islanders) and a 2025 fifth-round draft choice (via the Chicago Blackhawks). Half of Edmundson’s contract was retained by Washington, so he will cost $0.875 million against Toronto’s salary cap.

Montreal Canadiens Rebuild Almost Complete
March 7, 2024 by Blain Potvin
The Montreal Canadiens’ rebuild is two full seasons into its arc. General manager (GM) Kent Hughes arrived with a plan, and fans expected that it would take time. It needs to be repeated, you don’t complete a genuine rebuild in 18 months. It will take patience because they are starting from scratch by building the tools they need to execute their plans. By hiring more scouts, building analytics and player development departments and implementing individual development plans. The future looks good, even though the present doesn’t.Â
