Who Should Be the Islanders’ Starting Goaltender in the Playoffs?
April 11, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
It would be hard for fans at the beginning of the season to imagine the New York Islanders would be in a playoff spot at the same time they are discussing benching Ilya Sorokin, but here we are. With his underwhelming performance through the season, there appears to be a battle in the crease for who would start Game 1 of the playoffs for the Islanders. With Semyon Varlamov getting the nod in the Islanders’ key matchup against the New York Rangers, it seems as if the team has chosen a direction moving forward.

With a goal and two assists against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, he passed the great Phil Esposito in points with his 1,591st and recorded his 1,000th career assist in the process. He had tied the legend in the second period with his 41st goal of the season but passed him with his helper on Erik Karlsson’s overtime winner to send the Pittsburgh Penguins home with a crucial 6-5 victory.

Only reason Matthews has amount of goals is he is always asking for the puck. He does not care if the Leads win only about himself. He would tell you different but if he does not get the puck when he is asking for it he gets mad. Just look at his face when he is on the ice and does not get the puck. He is close to a puck hog. Leads will not win the Cup while he is on the team. Remember how he plays inn the playoffs.
