Blue Jackets Jiricek Making Strong Case to Stay in NHL
October 19, 2023 by Mark Scheig
Not much went right for the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night against the Detroit Red Wings. They couldn’t score any goals. They made costly mistakes that gave the Red Wings all the momentum they needed. It got so bad that head coach Pascal Vincent benched defenseman Damon Severson (and his new 8-year, $50 contract) for the entire third period. His turnover led directly to the 2-0 goal. The Blue Jackets chased the game the rest of the night.
However there was one bright spot on the night for the Blue Jackets. Defenseman David Jiricek had his second-straight solid game. His impact didn’t appear on the scoreboard. But a closer look suggests that he was the best skater for the Blue Jackets on Monday.
The Reality of the Maple Leafs’ “Dirty” William Nylander Secret
October 19, 2023 by Jim Parsons
There are mixed messages coming out of Toronto where some insiders believe the fact William Nylander has not yet signed an extension is problematic. Meanwhile, Chris Johnston recently reported that there’s no need to worry he puts the odds of a Nylander deal getting done at around 90%. Which is it?
Recently, Sheldon Keefe said on the play of Nylander this season: “His confidence is at an all-time high…. It’s gotten to a point now where he’s starting to really separate himself from a lot of others in the league.” Such a statement seems to suggest that he’s going to be expensive to keep and that with every game he plays, he’s getting closer and closer to being worth what he’s probably asking for. But, Johnston seems confident that Nylander doesn’t want to go anywhere else and that the Leafs aren’t worried about the money. The truth has to lie somewhere in between.
Capitals Should Consider Blockbuster Trade With Lightning
October 19, 2023 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Washington Capitals have made it clear that their goal for the 2023-24 season is to make it back into the playoff picture after coming up short last season. With a strong team both offensively and defensively, the Capitals still don’t quite have a championship-caliber roster. If their goal is to push for a Stanley Cup, they’ll need to add some extra firepower that will push them past the current Stanley Cup favorites in the Edmonton Oilers, Colorado Avalanche, Vegas Golden Knights, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
In what would likely go down as one of the craziest trades in NHL history, this article will go in-depth about Steven Stamkos being moved from the Lightning, while the return they get includes Evgeny Kuznetsov and Connor McMichael. With some issues between Stamkos and the Lightning as far as contract negotiations go, and the rumors of Kuznetsov wanting to be traded, this trade is entirely possible. While it’s a stretch, it’s possible.
9 Canadiens Who Won’t Be Traded in 2023-24
October 19, 2023 by Rob Couch
The Montreal Canadiens’ season hasn’t started exactly how they envisioned or wanted, but they will have to deal with any adversity nonetheless. The team is 1-1-1 through three games and have recently just lost Kirby Dach to a season-ending injury already.
This team looks like they are headed towards another season in which they are sellers at the trade deadline, or even before. We’re going to take a look at the players who should be safe, at least until the offseason.
