Kessel 'wasn't a fit' for Canucks, remains unsigned
Phil Kessel will not be eligible to play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season after he and the Vancouver Canucks were unable to come to a contract agreement prior to the deadline on Friday.
The 36-year-old forward arrived in Vancouver on Feb. 12 and had been skating with the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate in nearby Abbotsford.
Tarasenko’s 2 goals, assist spark Panthers past Flames
Vladimir Tarasenko got his first three points with the Florida Panthers, helping them defeat the Calgary Flames 5-1 at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday.
Playing his second game since being traded from the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday, the forward had two goals and an assist for Florida (44-17-4), which has won seven of its past eight games and 17 of 20. Anthony Stolarz made 34 saves.

NHL playoff standings: Post-trade deadline update on races
The 2024 NHL trade deadline passed on Friday afternoon. For those who might've missed anything, our reporters identified the winners and losers and also graded 23 of the biggest moves this trade season. But now that there will be no more deals, it's time for the rush to the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs to begin in earnest.
Devils trade for goalies Jake Allen, Kaapo Kahkonen
The New Jersey Devils revamped their goalie situation, getting Jake Allen from the Canadiens and Kaapo Kahkonen from the Sharks.
The Devils are sending a conditional third-round pick to the Canadiens, who are retaining 50% of Allen's $3.85 million salary. The draft pick could improve to a second-rounder based off a games-played contingency.
The Sharks get goaltender Vitek Vanecek and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick.

Flyers' Tortorella ejected in first period vs. Lightning
Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella was ejected in the first period on Saturday against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Flyers went down 4-0 to the Lightning after goals from Victor Hedman, Nicholas Paul, Conor Sheary, and Brayden Point.
Leafs' Marner day-to-day with lower-body injury
Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner will miss tonight's game against the Montreal Canadiens due to a lower-body injury. Marner, 26, has 25 goals and 76 points in 62 games this season. Due to Marner's absence, William Nylander is slated to play alongside Auston Matthews against the Habs.

The Edmonton Oilers played so poorly Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, they lost twice.
In a bizarre, rarely seen moment after Owen Power’s overtime winner for Buffalo, the goal was overturned on an offside review. Meanwhile, both teams — one happy, one sour — had gone to their dressing rooms and begun to undress when word filtered back to the players that they were going to have to return to the ice for the final 20 seconds of overtime and a shootout.
