Ottawa Senators: Revisiting the Zibanejad Trade

The Ottawa Senators have been known to mismanage their assets. One that stands out is the trade that involved Derick Brassard and Mika Zibanejad. On July 18, 2016, the Senators traded Zibanejad and a 2018 second-round pick (Jonatan Berggren) to the New York Rangers for Brassard and a 2018 seventh-round pick (Luke Loheit). The Berggren pick would not be used by the Rangers, but this trade was a win for New York from the start.

Senators’ Latest Trades Helping Team Become More Balanced

The Ottawa Senators made two surprising moves this past week, trading away top prospect Roby Jarventie to the Edmonton Oilers along with a fourth-round pick for Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson, and trading goalie Kevin Mandolese and a seventh-round pick to the Colorado Avalanche for a sixth-round pick. Both prospects were well-liked in the organization and, on the surface, it doesn’t make sense as to why they would be moved now, especially for pieces that won’t help the team this season.
Which NHL Playoff Drought Will End This Season?

Last season, only one minor playoff drought ended when the Vancouver Canucks returned to the postseason for the first time since 2020. The five longest playoff droughts remain intact. They are the Buffalo Sabres, who last made the playoffs in 2011, the Detroit Red Wings (2016), Ottawa Senators (2017), Anaheim Ducks (2018), and San Jose Sharks (2019).
