The Edmonton Oilers have had a successful offseason to date as they head toward the 2024-25 campaign. With new additions bolstering their forward lineup in Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson while being able to retain most of their unrestricted free agents, the Oilers seem set to run it back and become Stanley Cup favourites.
Glen Sather Retired With the Rangers, But His Legacy Is With the Oilers

In the midst of the NHL’s busiest time of year, on June 26, Glen Sather announced his retirement from hockey, stepping away from his executive role with the New York Rangers. It was easy to overlook Sather’s announcement, which came between Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on June 24, and the NHL Awards on June 27, the NHL Draft on June 28 and 29, as well as the start of free agency on July 1. Now that things have quieted down quite a bit, there is an opportunity to take stock of Sather’s legacy. Specifically, his legacy in Edmonton.

Connor McDavid Could Be Third-Fastest to 1,000 Points

After a dominant 132-point season capped off by a 42-point playoff run, there is no question that Connor McDavid is one of the most talented hockey players to ever play the sport. At just 27 years old, McDavid is already closing in on 1,000 points. After the conclusion of the 2023-24 season, McDavid currently has 982 points in 645 career regular season games. There is a good chance that he can become the third-fastest player to reach 1,000 points in NHL history.
