Oilers’ Trade Candidates to Create Cap Space

According to Frank Seravalli, the Edmonton Oilers could be forced to trade a roster player due to the team’s salary cap struggles, and he mentioned Cody Ceci as the most likely candidate. Speaking with Bob Stauffer on Oilers Now, Seravalli noted that he believes a Ceci trade would be a “break glass in case of an emergency” move. However, there are not many other moves the Oilers could make to alleviate their cap struggles, meaning a trade could come to fruition.

When free agency opened on July 1, the Edmonton Oilers were very busy, agreeing to new contracts with several players who will likely be fixtures in the Oilers lineup next season: Viktor Arvidsson (age 31), Connor Brown (30), Josh Brown (30), Adam Henrique (34), Mattias Janmark (31), Corey Perry (39), Troy Stetcher (30), and Jeff Skinner (32).

I can’t believe it’s been 40 years since Wayne Gretzky won his first Stanley Cup with the Edmonton Oilers. Where has the time gone? May 19, 1984, was one of the greatest days for the Great One and for Oilers fans in Edmonton and worldwide when Wayne lifted the Stanley Cup over his head for the first time on Northlands Coliseum ice. The moment that truly cemented Gretzky’s legacy came after the Oilers defeated the New York Islanders 5-2 to win Game 5 of the 1984 Stanley Cup Final.
