Buds Breakdown Weekly: What to Expect With Berube as Head Coach
May 26, 2024 by Anthony Testaguzza (Substack Premium Content)
If you missed the press conference on May 17, which officially introduced Craig Berube as the Maple Leafs' new head coach, there was much to unpack about what he will do for this franchise. Wouldn’t you know it, the first thing the media asked about him was his thoughts on a team that failed to push through the First Round of the playoffs this year, the ‘Core Four’, and speculation of possible changes to be made within the roster. He didn’t seem too worried about the idea of changes.

Maple Leafs News & Rumors: Marner, Hyman & Tavares
May 25, 2024 by The Old Prof
One of the most significant questions facing the Toronto Maple Leafs is what to do with Mitch Marner. Despite the rampant speculation about trading him, such a move seems unlikely given Marner’s no-movement clause and the team’s investment in him. Marner staying put makes the most logical sense, but his future with the team remains to be determined.
4 Trades the Maple Leafs & Devils Can Make
May 24, 2024 by Josh Reinitz
With the New Jersey Devils formally introducing Sheldon Keefe as their next head coach Tuesday in Newark, general manager Tom Fitzgerald can turn his gaze back to the daunting task of filling out his roster. One option available to him would be to harvest players who played under Keefe in Toronto to speed up the learning curve in the Devils locker room and provide comfort for the new coach. Earlier this week, The Hockey Writers examined potential free agents that may interest New Jersey. However, there may be greater value in seeking to add to the team via trade with the Maple Leafs.

Maple Leafs Need to Channel Their Inner Doug Gilmour Moving Forward
May 24, 2024 by Karine Hains
While the Toronto Maple Leafs have made two significant changes two years in a row, first relieving general manager Kyle Dubas of his functions in 2023 and, firing head coach Sheldon Keefe after the Maple Leafs’ latest first-round elimination, hockey is played on the ice and not behind the bench or upstairs. To be successful in the playoffs, their top players will have to play in a way that is more suited to playoff hockey, and to do that, they can certainly take Maple Leafs’ legend Doug Gilmour as an inspiration.
Toronto Maple Leafs 2023-24 Report Card: Auston Matthews
May 24, 2024 by JP Gambatese
Auston Matthews‘ 2022-23 season was, relative to previous seasons, somewhat disappointing. He “only” scored 40 goals and 85 points, which, although in the upper echelons of the league’s production numbers, was sub-par to his previous seasons in just about every aspect of his game. Heading into this season, then, Matthews was looking for a bounce-back. Suffice it to say, he completed that goal and then some.
