Washington Capitals’ History of Drafting 4th Overall
June 6, 2024 by Nathan Moser
When it comes to the NHL Entry Draft, all the teams who really need to select talent at the top would prefer having the first overall pick. It gives them the best chance at getting a star who can, in some cases, immediately step onto the team in a few months and make an impact. However, just because a team has the first overall pick does not mean they are going to get a guaranteed gamechanger for their franchise. It also works the other way as well. Just because a team does not have the first pick does not mean they cannot add a face of their organization. Like with every draft pick though, it can be a mixed bag of results on the actual draft spot. The fourth overall draft spot for the Washington Capitals, like in the case with their history of picking first overall, is also a mixed bag. They drafted a couple faces of their franchise, but that was not the case every time they held that pick.
Washington Capitals 2024 Draft Target: Michael Hage
June 5, 2024 by Nathan Moser
If the Washington Capitals decide to pick a forward with the 17th pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, there will be a few possibilities available for the taking. One of those names could be Michael Hage of the Chicago Steel in the United States Hockey League (USHL). He is projected to go around when the Caps are up at the podium, and he could make a significant impact at the forward position, as the organization continues to head toward the inevitable post-Alex Ovechkin era.

Capitals Lookback: Drafting Bobby Carpenter
June 1, 2024 by Nathan Moser
The Washington Capitals had a difficult number of seasons at the beginning of their history following their expansion into the NHL. Due to these struggles, they had to pick at the top of the NHL Draft quite a bit. Putting their 1974 first-overall pick Greg Joly aside because that was an expansion selection, the Caps had to pick at the top due to poor results on the ice, as expansion teams experienced most of the time. They had to pick in the top three draft spots on multiple occasions.
Cleveland Monsters Face Stiffest Test Yet in Hershey Bears
June 1, 2024 by Mark Scheig
The Cleveland Monsters had rolled through the AHL playoffs winning two five-game series in a total of seven games. With the play of goaltender Jet Greaves and scoring from all over the lineup, the Monsters had their sights set on the Eastern Conference Finals and the Hershey Bears.
Washington Capitals’ First Overall Draft Picks
June 1, 2024 by Nathan Moser
Getting the first overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft is a bittersweet feeling. No fanbase ever wants their team to be bad enough to have a good chance to get it, but if they do win it via the draft lottery, it can be a celebration and start of an exciting time for that club. The Edmonton Oilers got Connor McDavid first overall in 2015, and he has been the face of the game for years now. The Toronto Maple Leafs selected Auston Matthews first overall, and he helped start a new era in the organization alongside teammates William Nylander and Mitch Marner. The New Jersey Devils have both Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier. The Buffalo Sabres are led on the blue line with Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power as two first overall picks in their respective drafts. Getting the first overall pick hurts because of the season that just happened, but the reward after the fact helps make things more enjoyable going forward. The Washington Capitals have held the first overall pick three different times in their history. This is who they took and what they were able to accomplish with each.
