Devils’ Prospect Update: Cam Squires With Late-Season Explosion
March 31, 2024 by JP Gambatese (THW Premium Content)
March has seen a resurgence for many Devils prospects, with players from practically every league drastically increasing their production across the board. It’s a good sign after a down month in February, which, in combination with the NHL team faltering to the point of no return, left a sour taste in my mouth — and I’m sure the mouths of any Devils fan following the prospects. While the team itself hasn’t picked up the pace well enough to fight for playoff contention (despite however “close” or “in it” they are), the prospect pool certainly has shown a few bright spots in the last 30-plus days.
Devils Hope Defense Prospects Can Improve Their Blue Line Down The Road
April 3, 2024 by Mike Fink
The Utica Comets easily defeated the Bridgeport Islanders in their Tuesday, April 2 game with a 4-1 victory in a game they needed. The Islanders’ offense has struggled all season, with only 2.19 goals per game and five goals in the last five games, but the Comets’ defense put together a strong showing regardless. Not only did they allow only one goal in the game but limited a team that averages 30.88 shots on the net per game to only 24 shots on the goal, a testament to the strong play from the defensive unit.
Devils’ Scott Stevens – Dirty or Tough?
April 1, 2024 by THW Archives
Scott Stevens can be considered one of the last of a breed of NHLer that wreaked havoc on other players. During a time when checks were seemingly more vicious than in today’s game, Stevens threw his share of hits that rattled opposing players; some were injured, some were just angry, but there was never a doubt that Stevens played a hard, physical game. But, was that hard, physical game considered “dirty” when it came to his hit on Eric Lindros?
Revisiting Islanders & Devils Kyle Palmieri Trade
April 1, 2024 by Michael Ostrower
The 2020-21 season was a crazy one in hockey as it was the first full season during the COVID-19 pandemic. Divisions realigned and a shortened season ultimately led to a Stanley Cup Final consisting of two teams originally placed in the Atlantic Division. Before that matchup, the New York Islanders were potentially a goal away from earning a chance to win the Cup. This playoff run was a result of many factors, one of them being the acquisition of Kyle Palmieri from the New Jersey Devils.
5 Problems the Devils Must Solve Before Next Season
March 31, 2024 by Josh Reinitz
The New Jersey Devils entered this season riding a wave of positive vibes. They had finally broken through, and their rebuild was ahead of schedule. The team’s success the previous spring in ousting the rival New York Rangers in a seven-game series set them up to be the darling of many prognosticators as a dark horse Stanley Cup contender. Unable to ride the wave, the team wiped out this season as almost everything that could go wrong did.
