Bruins Recent Struggles Are a Real Cause for Concern
February 17, 2024 by Scott Roche (Premium THW Substack Content)
The NHL trade deadline is on March 8. Last season Boston Bruins general manager (GM) Don Sweeney went all-in at the deadline to help improve his teams’ chances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He acquired Dmitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from the Washington Capitals and Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings.
Unfortunately for the Bruins, those moves didn’t stop Boston from suffering a historic first-round exit from the postseason at the hands of the Florida Panthers. After taking a 3-1 series lead, Boston dropped the final three games of the series, two at home in overtime including Game 7, and that led to several offseason changes. The biggest loss they endured was captain Patrice Bergeron retiring, the heart and soul of the team.
One for the Ages: Gerry Cheevers’ 1971-72 Season
February 17, 2024 by Ryan Gagne
Gerry Cheevers is a Hall of Fame netminder who played with the Boston Bruins from 1965 to 1972 before spending some time in the World Hockey Association (WHA) and returning to Beantown from 1975 to 1980. Interestingly, he played with Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito during their best seasons, capturing the Stanley Cup in 1970 and 1972.
During his final season, at age 39, Cheevers skated alongside 19-year-old Ray Bourque, who would usher in a new era of Bruins hockey, eventually becoming their leading scorer 20 years later. Although he is fondly remembered for his “stitches” goalie mask, a tradition he started every time he made a save with his face, often lost among his career accolades is the fact he’s held the NHL record for the longest undefeated streak for over 50 years.
Bruins to Play in NHL’s Big City Greens Classic
February 16, 2024 by Brandon Share-Cohen
The Boston Bruins are set to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 9 in a regular-season tilt that will take place on ABC and ESPN+, but will also offer an alternate presentation called the NHL’s Big City Greens Classic on ESPN+, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney+. This follows last year’s groundbreaking live volumetric animation broadcast that featured the Washington Capitals and New York Rangers. It also follows a trend that’s been made popular in recent years by the National Football League. The NFL has seen great success by implementing a Nickelodeon broadcast for their games, which culminated in a highly-advertised and equally well-received Super Bowl being presented through a Nickelodeon scope.

The Defence must go back to basis defence and learn how to play. Too many mistakes in our offence end and must improve of we will not make the playoffs. CARLO must stop playing bad and I think he needs to sit out a game or so. Stop playing rookies and have the defence get the puck out of our end better. Forwards must shoot more on net and stop passing the puck and like you learn when you young is shoot the puck. Stop mixing up the lines and get back to basis and go with what works. Marchy needs to stop figuring skating with the puck as the league have caught on to him.
