If you were a Chicago Blackhawks fan anxiously awaiting free agency, you were in for a surprise when it was revealed in the wee morning of July 1 that forward Tyler Bertuzzi was expected to sign with the Blackhawks when free agency officially opened at 11 AM CT.

The Chicago Blackhawks locked up the two faces of their franchise on July 9, 2014. They signed Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews to identical eight-year, $84 million contracts. Toews won the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2010 while Kane took it home in 2013. They both played a huge role in the team’s 2015 Stanley Cup championship.

Connor Bedard Exceeded Expectations During Calder Season

Connor Bedard didn’t come into the league like any other first-overall draft pick. The former Regina Pats forward was one of the most talked about prospects in NHL history. He was considered one of the best players to be drafted since Connor McDavid in 2015. When the Chicago Blackhawks drafted him first overall last year, his first NHL season would be one of two tales. Either live up to the expectations or be scrutinized and called a bust already. However, Bedard chose a third choice. Exceed expectations.
