Wild Need World Championship Production to Translate
The Wild have been well represented at the 2024 IIHF World Championship but they need that prodution in the regular season
The Minnesota Wild’s season may be finished, but a few of their players haven’t gotten to the offseason just yet. The 2024 IIHF World Championship is currently underway and the Wild have sent 11 members to the tournament on a variety of teams. Matt Boldy, Jesper Wallstedt, Filip Gustavsson, Jonas Brodin, Joel Eriksson Ek, Mats Zuccarello, Marcus Johansson, Marco Rossi, David Spacek, Samuel Hlavaj, and head coach John Hynes were all selected to participate in the tournament.
Some players have done better, but American Matt Boldy has drawn the most attention. He currently leads the tournament with 14 points in eight games, a point ahead of teammate Brady Tkachuk. Boldy had a decent season with 69 points in 75 games for the Wild after missing some time with an injury; however, he found his game while wearing red, white, and blue.
He really struggled to find his spark during the regular season, but something in this tournament has brought out his scoring side. Hopefully, it’ll transfer into next season, and he can find that consistency and spark his game has been missing.
Boldy isn’t the only one stepping up during the World Championship for their respective team. Marcus Johansson, who had trouble during the regular season for the Wild, has been playing well for Team Sweden. He has nine points, four goals, and five assists in seven games. To compare for the Wild, he played in 78 games and had 30 points.
