Why YOUR Team Will Win the Stanley Cup Next Season
If there is one thing hockey fans know, it is that the Stanley Cup is the hardest trophy to win in sports. What would it take for YOUR team to win it?
No Stanley Cup champion had an easy path to victory, and it is never obvious who is going to take home the highly-coveted trophy. This was seen no better than when the Edmonton Oilers won three straight games against the Florida Panthers in the 2024 playoffs before falling in Game 7.
While there are some teams favorited and some viewed as not having a real chance of winning the 2025 Stanley Cup, as of right now, all 32 NHL teams are in contention. So, if your favorite NHL team, whether it be the Panthers or San Jose Sharks, is going to come out on top, what has to go their way?
Anaheim Ducks - Young Core Develops
The Anaheim Ducks finished last season with the third-worst record in the NHL and have not made any moves that would lead fans to believe they will make the playoffs this season. However, if the young core of Mason McTavish, Leo Carlsson, Trevor Zegras, Troy Terry, Pavel Mintukov, and Olen Zellweger can elevate their games to the next level, they could push for a Wild Card spot.
From there, veteran goaltender John Gibson would need to catch fire, but as everyone knows, anything can happen in the playoffs. The Ducks are absolutely a long shot, so they would need a lot to go their way.
Boston Bruins - Recent Acquisitions Step Up
The Boston Bruins fell to the eventual Stanley Cup-winning Panthers in Round 2 of the playoffs last season, proving they can compete with the best of the best. While they did lose Linus Ullmark in a trade with the Ottawa Senators, they have Jeremy Swayman, arguably a top-3 goaltender in the league.
If Swayman, in addition to the recent signings of Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov, can continue their strong play from last season, the Bruins will have addressed their two biggest holes. Lindholm needs to play like the first-line center he was signed to be, and Zadorov must build on the strides he took during his run with the Vancouver Canucks. If all three players can elevate their games, the Bruins will be serious contenders for Lord Stanley.
Buffalo Sabres - Consistent Goaltending
