Coyotes Prospect Report: Simashev, Geekie, Lipkin & More
October 18, 2023 by Cooper Krigbaum
With the Arizona Coyotes’ season ramping up, their prospects have also started to gear into the new season. The Coyotes have stockpiled an abundance of draft capital for the future and already have a current prospect pool that sits atop the NHL’s best. Just within the 2023 NHL Draft, general manager (GM) Bill Armstrong added 12 more prospects, each adding an element to the system.
However, the Coyotes know they need to play the long game; Rome wasn’t built in one day, and neither will this team in three drafts. At the same time, they’ve already seen a handful of players blossom into a role with the organization. Logan Cooley has arrived and already made an impact at the NHL level. They also have Dylan Guenther, Maksymilian Szuber, and Josh Doan, who are one step away from playing with the Coyotes.
3 Takeaways From Coyotes’ First 3 Games
October 18, 2023 by Haynes Evans
The Arizona Coyotes are almost a week into the 2023-24 NHL season and currently boast a record of 1-2-0 through three games, with the single win coming on opening night, 4-3 against the New Jersey Devils. The team is coming off back-to-back loses against the New York Rangers and New York Islanders. Through three games the Coyotes have looked to be a much different team compared to last season, which is a good sign for the organization after making key moves this offseason to ice a competitive roster.
From rookie sensation Logan Cooley’s hot start, to the emergence of newcomers such as Sean Durzi and Matt Dumba, and finally the strong goaltending of both Karel Vejmelka and Connor Ingram, we at The Hockey Writers take a look at three takeaways from the team’s first couple of games.
Coyotes’ O’Brien Continues to Be a Valuable Asset
October 19, 2023 by Richard Jelinek
For the Arizona Coyotes, this season is a new opportunity to grow from last season. Reinforcements were brought in during the offseason to make them a playoff team and a potential contender in the near future. Will they do the unthinkable and grab a playoff berth in 2023-24?
Arizona finished the preseason with a 4-5 record for 8 points, outscoring the opposition 30-28. They went 3-1 at home, which provides some optimism as playing at Mullett Arena suits their style of play.
Coyotes' Connor Ingram Finding His Way in Arizona
October 21, 2023 by Cooper Krigbaum
The Arizona Coyotes are no strangers to the waiver wire. Before the highly anticipated 2022-23 season, the team added two players in positions of need on back-to-back days. The first was from the Calgary Flames, claiming Jusso Valimaki. Since his arrival in Arizona, Valimaki looks like the first-round pick the Flames drafted in 2017. However, just one day after, general manager (GM) Bill Armstrong added another intriguing piece to the puzzle, Connor Ingram.
Ingram was placed on waivers by the Nashville Predators, who were stacked at goaltender with All-Star Juuse Saros and up-and-comer Yaroslav Askarov. Ingram didn’t fit into the system in Nashville and their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals. Claiming the 25-year-old meant he had to stay on the roster, and that was the big question: was he ready for the task at hand? Ingram answered all those questions, leaving him being placed on waivers a surprise, but a welcomed one for Armstrong and company.
