Which Sabres’ 2022 First-Rounder Makes the Team in 2024-25?
March 23, 2024 by Jacob D. Strozyk
The Buffalo Sabres are in a very tough situation where they essentially need to win out the remainder of the season, while simultaneously needing about four other teams to lose more than half their games, in order to make the playoffs. With the odds being so slim, combined with this team’s poor track record this season, the likelihood of that is nearly impossible. With that being said, the Sabres need to start assessing their prospect pool, starting with their trio of first-round picks in 2022. While assessing them, a decision needs to be made on which of them should get an NHL roster position, which should end up in Rochester, and which can be used as a trade chip to improve the team.
Josh Doan’s Call-Up to the Coyotes a Long Time Coming
March 25, 2024 by Chase Beardsley
Thanks to his impressive play in the American Hockey League with the Tucson Roadrunners, Josh Doan will be the third Arizona State Sun Devil alumni to play in the NHL. It’s a move that has been in the makings for months now especially due to the Roadrunners’ success.
4 Positive Signs for Anaheim Ducks’ Rebuild
March 25, 2024 by Charlie Hiller
As March turns into April, playoff races are at the forefront of the NHL discussions. For the sixth straight season, these conversations won’t include the Anaheim Ducks. With a 24-43-4 record, their point total is only a marginal improvement from last season, when they finished with 23 wins and a league-low 58 points.
Calgary Flames: 4 Other College Free Agents Worth Looking At
March 24, 2024 by Derek Olsen
It’s mid-March, and that means most college hockey seasons are coming to an end. This means that many players are now free to speak and potentially sign with NHL teams. Plenty are without a home altogether, having gone undrafted in the NHL and aging out/graduating. Lots will still have years of eligibility remaining, but could be enticed to turn pro early with the right situation. The Calgary Flames have done relatively well signing college free agents from a historical standpoint; legendary Flames players such as Jamie Macoun and Joel Otto went undrafted, were snagged by the team, and went on to have very respectable careers. Otherwise, Flames greats like Joe Mullen and Curtis Glencross had similar stories, albeit getting their original shot with other teams.
Oilers Bolster Prospect Pool With James Stefan Signing
March 23, 2024 by Jesse Courville-Lynch
The Edmonton Oilers are well on their way to the postseason and are making a late push in hopes of finishing first in the Pacific Division this season. They currently sit second in the division behind the Vancouver Canucks who have been one of the strongest teams in the entire league, but the Oilers still have a chance to pass them with games in hand. Aside from their focus on the upcoming postseason, they made another transaction this week signing the son of former NHL player Patrik Stefan out of the Western Hockey League (WHL), James Stefan, to a three-year entry-level contract.
Canucks Prospect Josh Bloom Learning Lessons in Weird Season
March 25, 2024 by Lukas Bernasiewicz
During last season’s trade deadline, the Vancouver Canucks made many headline-grabbing trades. Like acquiring Filip Hronek from the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for a first and second-round pick. But before this trade, general manager Patrik Allvin made a small move to acquire prospect Josh Bloom from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Riley Stillman. Bloom was selected late in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft and was signed by Buffalo to an entry-level deal after the 2021-22 season.
