Maple Leafs Should Target Free Agent Defenceman Ethan Bear
December 6, 2023 by Andrew Forbes
Injuries and inconsistencies have been the talking points of the Toronto Maple Leafs through the first quarter of the season. However, even with their shortcomings, the Sheldon Keefe led Maple Leafs are 12-6-4 through 22 games — good enough for fourth in the Atlantic Division.
While it’s been a game-by-game approach from the Maple Leafs so far, injuries on their back end have piled up and they’ve replaced the holes with bandaid fixes for the most part — with the likes of William Lagesson, Simon Benoit and Max Lajoie. For the time being, they have held the bleeding at bay. However, with talks of the Maple Leafs looking to acquire Chris Tanev from the Calgary Flames, could there be another option for them on the free agent market?
4 Ex-Maple Leafs Who’d Make the Best Neighbours
December 5, 2023 by The Old Prof
It was how much I liked goalie Jack Campbell as a person that first made me consider writing a post about Toronto Maple Leafs players that I’d like as next-door neighbours. There was something so very human about Campbell’s struggles and tenacity in attempting to work through them that endeared me to the young goalie. It made me consider why he’d be such a good role model for my children and why he’d be an engaging neighbour.
That aspect – the idea of being a class act – is something I have noticed in several players who’ve played for the Maple Leafs in the six years I’ve covered the team. As an old guy, I enjoy learning about the human side of players. In this post, I’ve chosen four ex-Maple Leafs players who I think would make great neighbours.
Maple Leafs’ Impact: Bertuzzi & Domi vs. Bunting & Kerfoot
December 5, 2023 by The Old Prof
This past offseason the Toronto Maple Leafs allowed Michael Bunting and Alex Kerfoot to walk into free agency. Bunting signed a three-year $4.5 million deal with the Carolina Hurricanes and Kerfoot signed for two years with the Arizona Coyotes for $3.5 million per season. To replace them the Maple Leafs signed Tyler Bertuzzi to a one-year $5.5 million deal and Max Domi for a year at $3 million.
3 Maple Leafs Defense Targets After Zadorov Trade
December 5, 2023 by Peter Baracchini
It’s no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in dire need of help on the blueline with their questionable play and injuries piling up. They were in the mix for Calgary Flames defenseman Nikita Zadorov. Though, he was eventually dealt to the Vancouver Canucks as they had the space to take on Zadorov’s contract.
During Saturday Headlines on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Maple Leafs couldn’t get a deal done that would allow the Flames to retain salary on not just Zadorov, but with Chris Tanev as well. Friedman also reports that they still remain involved in trying to acquire Tanev, a physical, shut down defender that could be a great asset in the top-four.
