Hurricanes Fans Get Injury Updates on Svechnikov & Andersen
December 17, 2023 by Collin Madewell
A ray of sunlight can be seen just over the horizon in Raleigh. Carolina Hurricanes fans once frustrated by their team’s lackluster performances through October and November have started to see what they’ve come to expect from the defending Metropolitan Division champions.
Though, no matter how good the team plays, fans will always want updates on the star players sitting out of the lineup and still recovering from different ailments.
Hurricanes Have 3 Good Trade Targets to Fill Raanta Roster Spot
December 17, 2023 by Zach Martin
On Sunday, Dec. 17, they called up Yaniv Perets, who’s been playing with the Norfolk Admirals in the ECHL. So far this season with the Admirals, Perets has a 5-5-1 record with a 2.38 GAA and a .916 SV%. Also, he has secured a shutout in 11 ECHL games. This move is most likely a short-term solution for the Hurricanes until they can bring in an NHL-caliber goalie to tandem with Kochetkov.
There have been rumblings of goalies that could be on the move around the league. Carolina will most certainly be making calls over the next few days to inquire about getting one of them. Here are three netminders that the Hurricanes should look into adding to the roster.
Hurricanes’ Kochetkov Looking to Seize the Starting Role
December 18, 2023 by Tommy Bennett
Something had to give somewhere, as the Carolina Hurricanes have not played up to their normal standards. Head coach Rod Brind’Amour has been vocal about the team’s level of play and the line was drawn in the sand after Friday night (Dec. 15). After an overtime defeat against the Nashville Predators, the Hurricanes placed goaltender Antti Raanta on waivers.
Raanta has been a key component the last two seasons, as he has provided stability in net for the team. However, goaltending has been inconsistent and the poorest in the league during the 2023-24 season. Having off nights is normal, as these players are human beings too and nobody is perfect. However, at some point, the goalies have to come up with a key save and thrive at the position.
Antti Raanta to AHL; What’s Next for Hurricanes Goaltending?
December 18, 2023 by Collin Madewell
After a long six-game road trip and back-to-back games on Thursday (Dec. 14) and Friday night (Dec. 15), it seemed like Carolina Hurricanes fans were in for a quiet Saturday. A day of rest and relaxation before the team faced off against the Washington Capitals on Sunday night.
Sadly, it wasn’t meant to be. On Saturday, the Hurricanes placed veteran netminder Antti Raanta on waivers.
Raanta woke up Monday morning as a member of the American Hockey League’s Chicago Wolves. A move that wasn’t guaranteed. His movement to the AHL creates a lot of new and more urgent questions about the Hurricanes’ depth between the pipes.
Pyotr Kochetkov Taking Control of Hurricanes’ Starting Goalie Role
December 21, 2023 by Zach Martin
What helped Carolina overcome their struggle in Western Canada was simplifying their games. They went 0-4-0 in that swing while being outscored 14-7. The team as a whole hung their goaltenders out to dry, but the goalies also had a tough time keeping the pucks out of the net. Finally, a 4-3 loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Dec. 9 led to a players-only meeting.
Then Antti Raanta was placed on waivers after giving up six goals in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators on Dec. 15 and was reassigned to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League (AHL) the next day. Pyotr Kochetkov stepped up for the Hurricanes when they needed it most from their goaltenders.
