Hurricanes Need Raanta to Hold It Down in Kochetkov’s Absence
January 15, 2024 by Tommy Bennett
There is a storm brewing and the eye of the storm has made its way to the top of the division standings. The Carolina Hurricanes are rolling and sit three points behind the New York Rangers for first place. Despite injuries to Martin Necas, the team has been finding ways to score goals. Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov have been paving the way up front. Aho had 22 points in the month of December and six to begin the month of January. Svechnikov has been great, as his seven points in January are right ahead of Aho.
Who’s to Blame for the Carolina Hurricanes’ Goalie Disaster?
January 15, 2024 by Collin Madewell
No, general manager Don Waddell isn’t guilty of malpractice for failing to trade for a goalie this season. Sitting atop the Carolina Hurricanes front office, he’s the easiest target for fans who are scared of what the future holds for their team and are looking for someone to blame.
This isn’t to say that the Hurricanes front office doesn’t deserve some blame for the situation they find themselves in. It’s clear now that we’re living through the worst goalie situation. Frederik Andersen is out indefinitely with blood clotting issues and veteran backup Antti Raanta recently returned from a confidence-building stint in the American Hockey League (AHL). Now, goalie of the future Pytor Kochetkov is sidelined for an uncertain amount of time as he works his way through concussion protocol.
Hurricanes Should Add Kasimir Kaskisuo for Goalie Stability
January 18, 2024 by Zach Martin
The Carolina Hurricanes are currently down to two active goaltenders in their organization. They have been without Frederik Andersen since October when he was diagnosed with blood clots in his leg. Carolina lost Pyotr Kochetkov on Star Wars Night versus the Anaheim Ducks on Jan 11. They are down to Antti Raanta and Yaniv Perets who made his NHL debut in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, Jan. 15. That being said, the Hurricanes are in great need of goalie depth with only four in the system and two of them being out.
Hurricanes netminder Jakob Vondras is with the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and he won’t be able to join the team at all this season due to agreements between the NHL and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) when it comes to players eligible for juniors. Despite being short on goalies, they have a chance to sign one to a reasonable contract if they are not willing to trade for one. There is someone that they should take a look at to help bring stability and depth to the position within the organization.
