Duchene Has Given Stars a Lethal Secondary Scoring Line
January 2, 2024 by Tommy Bennett
The Dallas Stars have been a strong offensive team under head coach Pete DeBoer but needed depth scoring. The Stars boast one of the best lines in the NHL with Roope Hintz, Joe Pavelski, and Jason Robertson, but relying on them heavily isn’t the most sustainable.
General manager Jim Nill made one of the smartest moves of the summer by signing Matt Duchene. He has immediately slid into the second-line center role and has been everything they have needed him to be.
Wedgewood’s Strong December Has Kept Stars at the Top

It is never easy to be without your starting goaltender. The goalie is arguably the most important position on the ice and is a key component to having sustained success. If you get into a situation where you lose your starting goalie, having a reliable backup to weather the storm goes a long way.
Take a look at the Tampa Bay Lightning for instance. They were missing Andrei Vasilevskiy for the first month and a half of the season (returned Nov. 24) and were able to weather the storm. Jonas Johansson posted a record of 8-5-5, and kept the Lightning in the thick of things until Vasilevskiy returned.
The same thing can be said for the Dallas Stars. It hasn’t been to the same length but they are currently without starting goaltender Jake Oettinger. However, because of the play their backup goaltender, they’ve stayed in the race for first in the Central Division.
