Golden Knights’ Analytics Prove they Aren’t in a ‘Slump’
December 3, 2023 by Eric Cruikshank
The Vegas Golden Knights had about as good of a start to the 2023-24 regular season as they could’ve asked for, winning 11 of their first 12 games and taking points in each game up until their first regulation loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Nov. 5. However, things haven’t been going as well lately. They’ve lost eight of their last 12 games with a 4-5-3 record and have only managed to score seven five-on-five goals in their last six games, with all seven being scored in their last two.
With the Vancouver Canucks and Los Angeles Kings continuing to pressure the Golden Knights for the top spot in the Pacific Division, should fans be concerned that their recent struggles may lead to bigger worries later in the season? Absolutely not.
Golden Knights Need More From Their Big Guns
November 30, 2023 by Ben Fisher
What was once considered a mini-slump for the Vegas Golden Knights can probably now be characterized as a full-blown slide. A 14-5-4 record on the season is hardly disappointing, but collecting just three wins in their past 11 games isn’t exactly ideal – particularly when the team’s first 11 games produced 10 wins.
With the team recording just two goals in four games before Tuesday’s contest and head coach Bruce Cassidy highlighting the bottom-six (in a positive way, but still), there are clear indications that the team’s best and highest-paid forwards need to step up.
Marc-André Fleury Curse Continues to Hit Teams
November 28, 2023 by Ben Wagner
The NHL’s expansion protocol dictates the holding of a draft to fill out the roster of new teams. The Seattle Kraken picked apart the rest of the league to staff their team in 2021-22, just as the Vegas Golden Knights did when they began play in 2017-18. When the Golden Knights arrived on the scene, the hockey world was shocked when the defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins failed to protect franchise goaltender and former first-overall pick Marc-André Fleury.
The Golden Knights jumped on the opportunity and selected Fleury in the expansion Draft. The former Penguins superstar promptly led the upstart franchise to the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost in five games to the Washington Capitals. Subsequent struggles led them to deal Fleury to the Chicago Blackhawks, a team in the middle of their own rebuild. The Blackhawks then traded him to the Minnesota Wild at the 2022 trade deadline, where he remains under contract.
