Bruins’ 2023-24 Trade Targets: Calgary Flames
December 19, 2023 by Michael DeRosa
After an offseason that saw them lose Patrice Bergeron, David Krejci, Taylor Hall, Dmitry Orlov, Tyler Bertuzzi, and more, the Boston Bruins are once again one of the top teams in the NHL standings in 2023-24. Because of this, they are very likely to be buyers at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline. One team that general manager Don Sweeney should consider doing business with this season is the Calgary Flames. They have two big-name players whom the Bruins should continue targeting and an old friend who would give them more forward depth. Let’s discuss them.
Bruins Look to End 2023 On a High Note
December 18, 2023 by Drew Johnson
Jan. 1 is just two weeks away, and the Boston Bruins have just six more games to play until I exchange the 2023 Bruins calendar on my wall with the 2024 one (thank you, Santa. Your consistency is comparable to that of Patrice Bergeron).
The schedule features four games on the road, dates with some hot Western Conference teams, and some Divisional opponents.
After a hot start, Boston went 5-4-2 in their last 11 games. These next six games could prove to be a pivotal point in their 2023-24 season.
3 AHL Bruins’ Deserving of a Call-up to Boston
December 18, 2023 by Scott Roche
Boston called up Mason Lohrei from the Providence Bruins in the American Hockey League (AHL) when Forbort went to LTIR and Jesper Boqvist was called up ahead of the two-game road trip against the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders. Now after McAvoy and Zacha went on LTIR, the Bruins called up Patrick Brown and Parker Wortherspoon. Boqvist played just 4:47 in a 65-minute overtime game against the Islanders and with an already short bench with Matthew Poitras missing the game for a scheduled day off, shortening the bench like that in a game is putting a lot of pressure on an already shorthanded roster. Brown played just over five minutes in the 2-1 loss to the New York Rangers on Dec. 16. Here are three AHL Bruins who deserve a call-up and play more than five minutes a game for the Black and Gold.
Bruins Benefitting From Frederic’s Offensive Growth in 2023
December 17, 2023 by Hannah Garfield
The 2023 calendar year has seen an evolution of Trent Frederic as a hockey player. The 2016 first-round draft pick had some struggles cracking the roster after finishing up his collegiate career at Wisconsin. He spent two seasons primarily playing for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL) with occasional call-ups to play in Boston. When he finally cracked the roster full-time, he began to make a reputation for himself for his physical play, which bordered on reckless, while struggling to consistently put up points.
In the second half of the 2022-23 season, there was a change in Frederic. The physical style of play was still there, but he wasn’t taking as many bad penalties to go along with it. Most importantly, the points started to rack up for him.
There was wonder if the season was a fluke or a real sign of improvement as a player, and so far in 2023-24, he’s showing that it wasn’t a fluke. As the calendar flips to 2024, it’s the perfect time to look back at how he’s grown the past year and what expectations should be going forward into the rest of the season.
