Canadiens’ Christian Dvorak Out for the Rest of the Season
January 4, 2024 by Trege Wilson
The Montreal Canadiens have been hit with another significant injury. The list of injuries keeps getting longer as the Canadiens are on pace for another record-breaking season of man-games lost.
With their number two center, Kirby Dach, already out for the season with an MCL/ACL tear, the Canadiens were short at the center position. Then Alex Newhook, replacing Dach at center, went down with a high ankle sprain and was expected to miss 10-12 weeks. Now, Christian Dvorak has suffered a significant upper-body injury and will miss the rest of the season.
Senators’ Goaltending Preventing Team’s Success
January 4, 2024 by Paul Quinney
The Ottawa Senators won’t make the playoffs this year and one of the reasons is that they have terrible goaltending. If they want to see postseason action next year they need to fix it. Weak goaltending isn’t a new problem for the Senators. The last decent goaltender with any longevity they had was Craig Anderson. He earned his 10-year service pin, but left Bytown before the start of the 2020-21 season.
Let’s take a look at what explains this season’s crummy goaltending and what Senators management might be able to do about it.

Oilers Diminish Appeal of Goalie Trade Options with Recent Wins
January 4, 2024 by Jim Parsons
The Edmonton Oilers are scoring at will in recent games. With a 30-12 positive goal differential, and versus some teams that have goaltenders the Oilers might be considering ahead of the NHL Trade Deadline, the optics of trading for one of these netminders Edmonton is lighting up doesn’t seem so appealing. What exactly does that mean for GM Ken Holland, who has spent the last month or two scouting almost everyone.
That’s the issue when the team is so potent on offense. The Oilers have the ability to make goaltenders look awful. It’s great news when it comes to moving up the standings, but it’s not ideal if you’re Holland and looking at one of the options as a potential trade piece.
Blues Should be Active at the Trade Deadline
January 4, 2024 by Evan Mead
The St. Louis Blues‘ struggles this season have placed them in a challenging position. Despite showing increased competitiveness since their head coaching change, they still have difficulty securing victories against top-tier teams. While there is ample time remaining in the season, concerns have arisen regarding the Blues’ current situation.
Given the abundance of top-end talent in their pipeline, the Blues may consider opening up roster spots for their promising prospects next season. Leveraging the trade deadline, especially with several players locked up long-term, could be a strategic move that benefits the organization. This approach would involve obtaining assets in return for players perceived as not critical to the team’s future.
