Stanley Cup Final Key: Oilers’ Special Teams vs. Panthers’ Physicality
June 5, 2024 by The Old Prof
From the outside looking in, the Florida Panthers seem to have one big job if they are to win the Stanley Cup Final. They have to physicalyize the Edmonton Oilers without falling victim to the Oilers’ elite power-play units. The Cup Final promises to be a tightly-contested series, with special teams playing a pivotal role in determining the victor. Here’s a breakdown of what each team needs to do to lift the Cup…
4 Top-Six Wingers the Canucks Should Target in a Trade

The Vancouver Canucks are in the market to improve their team after a breakout season that included the team reaching the 50-win mark, winning the Pacific Division and reaching the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Rangers’ Elimination Stings More With Knoblauch in Cup Final
June 5, 2024 by Brendan Azoff
The New York Rangers have had quite the coaching carousel over the past few seasons. After a five-year run by Alain Vigneault, the Blueshirts churned through David Quinn (three seasons) and Gerard Gallant (two seasons) before landing on Peter Laviolette this past offseason.
3 Key Moves for Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving This Offseason
June 5, 2024 by The Old Prof
Since David Pastrnak ended the Toronto Maple Leafs’ season on May 4, the franchise’s leadership has announced that anything is on the table to get the team over its playoff slump. Long Stanley Cup Final Layoff Has Pros & Cons
June 5, 2024 by Alex Hutton
The matchup for the 2024 Stanley Cup Final is set, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for the actual games between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers to take place. The puck drops for Game 1 on Saturday, June 8, making for a six-day gap between the end of the conference finals and the start of the Cup Final. That delay is tied with the 2007, 2019 and 2023 Playoffs for the longest such moratorium in the post-lockout era.
And while nearly a week without playoff hockey creates a void for fans, the intricacies of the waiting period offer many other points of interest as well, both positive and negative for the teams involved and the greater hockey community. Florida, Edmonton and the NHL world have no choice but to embrace the time off, and while it will offer benefits, it could raise some understandable complaints at the same time.
Seattle Kraken Team Captain Candidates
June 5, 2024 by Edgar Chaput
The Seattle Kraken have not had a team captain for over two years. The franchise’s original talisman, Mark Giordano, was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in March 2022 in the franchise’s first season of existence. Since then, the club has operated with a few alternate captains. Given that the team is now in semi-rebuilding mode insofar as they need to get back to the playoffs and just hired a new head coach in Dan Bylsma, the time has come to nominate a new team captain.
