Hurricanes Mailbag: Defensemen, Ponomarev & Predictions
October 2, 2023 by Zach Martin
It is officially October which means one thing, hockey is back. Going into the final week of preseason hockey games, the Carolina Hurricanes are unofficially 2-2-0. They will have two games in a home-and-home series on Thursday and Friday versus the Nashville Predators. Before those games are played, the Hurricanes writers here at The Hockey Writers wanted to interact with some Hurricanes fans by having them send in some questions on X for the first mailbag of the season. Hurricanes’ Penalty Kill Gets Stronger with Svechnikov Addition
October 2, 2023 by Tommy Bennett
Entering the final week of the preseason, the Carolina Hurricanes will wait until Oct. 6 for their next game. Training camp is ramping up and finding the right line combinations is the priority. The team is experimenting with different lines and personnel, including on the penalty kill unit. This is an area where the Hurricanes excelled last season, and adding a star forward should give it an added edge.
Hurricanes’ Burns Looks to Break Franchise Scoring Record…Again
October 4, 2023 by Zach Martin
Going into the 2022-23 season, Tony DeAneglo held the most points by a Hurricanes defenseman in one season with 51 points. He accomplished that feat the season before tallying 10 goals and 41 assists in 64 games played. However, Burns broke that record last season with 61 points in 82 games played. He accumulated 18 goals and 43 assists in the process. What makes it interesting is that he accomplished that after a slow start. If he can manage to start the upcoming 2023-24 season off strong, who is to say he can’t break his own record?
