3 Hurricanes’ Rookies Who Shined Brightly at Rookie Showcase
September 17, 2023 by Tommy Bennett
The most beautiful time of the year has arrived, which is hockey season. To kick things off is the prospects challenge, where the teams’ rookies get to showcase their abilities in exhibition games. The Carolina Hurricanes headed south to Florida, and plenty of young guys participated. It is a great measuring stick to see where players are in their development. Here are three of the Hurricanes rookies that stood out in this weekend’s games.
Hurricanes’ Martinook Living His Best Life in 2023
September 17, 2023 by Zach Martin
Jordan Martinook is an alternate captain and a locker room guy that every team needs. The numbers he put up last season show that he can provide the depth scoring that Carolina is known to have. He throws the body while being part of the shutdown line with Staal and Fast like they were last season.
It makes sense to keep him during this run that Carolina is on right now, with five-straight playoff appearances and three-straight division titles. Martinook had a great season, a great summer, and another great season should be on the horizon. 2023 will be known as the year of the Martinook in Hurricanes’ lore.

Hockey season is nearing the start, and training camp is officially underway. The Carolina Hurricanes are a team to watch for and one of the more dangerous teams in the entire league. With critical additions made during the offseason, the time is now to capture the Stanley Cup. In what can be labeled as a Cup or Bust type of season, here are three reasons why they win it all in 2023-24.
Hurricanes’ Necas Needs to Prove Last Year Was No Fluke
September 20, 2023 by Zach Martin
After the 2021-22 season, the Hurricanes signed Martin Necas to a two-year, $3 million annual average value contract that is set to expire after the 2023-24 season. Before last season, he had 40 points in 78 games accumulating 14 goals and 26 assists. In the 2020-21 season, though, he was close to a point-per-game player with 41 points in 53 games played.
In his age-22 and 23 seasons, he did manage at least 40 points in the two seasons before 2022-23. Despite all of that, it seemed that to some, he took a step back in 2021-22 compared to 2020-21 where he showed sparks of promise. So, going into the 2022-23 season and starting his new two-year deal, it seemed like a prove-it season for Necas, and prove it he did.
