Flames Should Look Into Signing Paul Stastny to Inexpensive Deal
September 21, 2023, by Rupert McDonald
With the Brad Treliving/Darryl Sutter regime out, the Calgary Flames appear to be committed to giving young players a real chance to earn an NHL spot of out training camp. Far too many times in the past, the old regime was comfortable giving out cheap, one-year deals to veteran players who were very fringe NHLers. This resulted in a number of young players in the minors growing frustrated, one being Matthew Phillips, who chose to leave the Flames this offseason and instead joined the Washington Capitals.
Flames Still Better Off to Move Hanifin Despite Recent Comments
September 20, 2023, by Rupert McDonald
All summer long, it felt like only a matter of time before the Calgary Flames traded Noah Hanifin. The 26-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract which carries a cap hit of $4.95 million, and could bring back a ton in a deal given how strong of a defenceman he is.

The team had hopes that they would advance to the playoffs and make a run at the Stanley Cup. However, they finished two points outside the last wild-card spot in the Western Conference. Despite a bleak outlook at the end of last season, I have reason to believe that fans can be optimistic heading into the new season.

The Young Stars Classic has wrapped up, meaning we are getting very close to the 2023-24 NHL season. Most assumed that given their cap situation and the lack of moves over the summer, the Calgary Flames were going to enter training camp with their current roster and go from there. However, that may not be the case.
Flames Takeaways From Penticton Young Stars Classic
September 19, 2023, by Nathanial Duffett
The Calgary Flames finished well in the Young Stars Classic, earning a 4-2 win over the Winnipeg Jets. The win brought their record to 2-1 for the weekend, as they lost 7-1 to Vancouver in the opener and beat Edmonton 4-3. However, the results aren’t a huge factor in these events. What matters is the development of the Flames’ prospects.
Flames Have 3 Primary Concerns This Season
September 18, 2023, by Ryan Ventura
The Calgary Flames are less than a month away from kicking off their 2023-24 season. After what was a hectic offseason that saw plenty of roster turnover as well as the dawn of a new era for management, fans are eager to see the quality of the team’s play. There are certainly reasons to be optimistic about this Flames team, however, there are also reasons to be concerned about how they will perform. Here are a few of the latter.
