Calgary Flames’ 5 Best-Case Scenarios in 2023-24
October 3, 2023, by Rupert McDonald
The Calgary Flames are looking for a major bounce-back season after 2022-23’s disappointment. Aside from the big Tyler Toffoli for Yegor Sharangovich trade, the roster is quite similar to last season. That said, the organization has still made plenty of personnel changes.
Both Brad Treliving and Darryl Sutter are out, while new general manager Craig Conroy and head coach Ryan Huska are in. This is great news for the organization, as well as its fanbase, as it had become clear that the environment had grown toxic under the former regime.
Flames’ Solovyov Pushing Hard for Roster Spot
October 3, 2023, by Rupert McDonald
If you weren’t familiar with the name Ilya Solovyov before Calgary Flames training camp this year, it’s hard to blame you. The 23-year-old Russian defender isn’t often discussed when it comes to this organization’s top prospects, as he lacks the flash and offensive upside which is what most typically look for in up-and-coming players.
With that said, it has been impossible for anyone following the Flames through training camp not to have noticed Solovyov. The coaching staff appear to be big fans of his game and are giving him plenty of opportunities to showcase himself. He has not only suited up for several games already but has been given a ton of minutes.
Flames Wise to Send Wolf to AHL Instead of Rushing Trade

After a highly disappointing 2022-23 season, Calgary Flames fans were extremely hopeful that they would get to see Dustin Wolf play in the NHL for the entire 2023-24 campaign. Though that hasn’t been ruled out as he still remains with the team to this point in camp, general manager Craig Conroy admitted it is likely that Wolf will at least begin this season with the Calgary Wranglers.
