3 Coyotes Facing A Must Prove-It Season
September 26, 2023 by Haynes Evans
The Arizona Coyotes kicked off training camp this past week with preseason officially underway. While camp has begun in Arizona, the majority of the team’s opening night roster is on their way home, having wrapped up their two-game slate against the Los Angeles Kings in the NHL’s Global Series in Melbourne, Australia. Game one saw a highlight reel goal from Logan Cooley, with the Coyotes coming away with the 5-3 win. Game two saw the Kings steal the win, coming out on top 3-2.
While most of the team’s opening night roster is set, aside from a few spots that will be decided in camp, it does not mean that everyone in the organization from the NHL, down to the ECHL is safe. An aging veteran like Matt Dumba is looking to revitalize his career in the desert, while young guns such as goaltender Ivan Prosvetov and forward Barrett Hayton are looking for consistency in their game. In what looks to be an exciting season for the desert dogs, we take a look at three players facing a prove-it year.
Coyotes Who Could Earn Roster Spot with a Strong Preseason
September 25, 2023 by Cooper Krigbaum
The Arizona Coyotes wrapped up a treacherous two-game series against the Los Angeles Kings in Australia, which had the team traveling over 8,000 miles and combating a 17-hour time difference. For the games in Australia, the team brought the main roster, which included the likes of Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, and newcomer Matt Dumba. Even though there is little to no room regarding roster spots, there are still several players who could crack the opening night roster.
Defenseman Travis Dermott is looking to make an impact at the NHL level along with Michael Carcone, who aims to cement himself in the Coyotes lineup. There are plenty more, but here are some players who can secure a spot in the upcoming preseason games.
Coyotes: A Global Series Success Down Under
September 24, 2023 by Cooper Krigbaum
To kick off the 2022-23 season, the NHL held its global series in Prague, Czechia, where the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators played two regular season games. When it was announced that the Arizona Coyotes would be taking on the Los Angeles Kings in Melbourne, Australia, it was a long time coming. “We have been looking at Australia for upwards of a decade as a place to potentially play games to really try and grow our business,” said Proper. “One of the things that we’ve tried not to do is rush into any particular market without doing our due diligence, and there was a lot of due diligence we felt needed to be done because it’s obviously a major enterprise to try and build your business in Australia.”
However, there were plenty of implications heading into the historic matchup. Not only would both teams be traveling over 8,000 miles, but it was also the first NHL game to be played in the Southern Hemisphere. Though, the Coyotes had a slew of new faces entering the lineup, and after a week filled full of practices, photo shoots, and games, here are some takeaways from the two matchups down under.
