Could the Coyotes Have a Future ECHL Affiliate In Reno?
September 29, 2023 by Chase Beardsley
On Sept. 27, the University of Nevada and the Grand Sierra Resort announced plans to build a $1 billion arena district in downtown Reno, Nevada. This would include a 10,000-seat arena for the university’s basketball team. However, this proposed arena reportedly can also be configured for hockey.
This brings a lot of interesting possibilities for the sport of hockey to explore the biggest city in northern Nevada for the first time in a long time. How do the Arizona Coyotes fit into this new project, and what could be a possible future between the team and Reno?
Coyotes’ Hayton Needs to Show Last Year Was No Fluke
September 30, 2023 by Cooper Krigbaum
When the Arizona Coyotes entered the 2022 NHL Draft, there was a major elephant in the room: the team’s depth at center. They addressed this by adding Logan Cooley and Conor Geekie, two high-end prospects to their system. Adding these young and gifted centers reassured them that, eventually, they’d have the depth at center to win the Stanley Cup, just like all elite teams. However, they still had former fifth-overall pick Barrett Hayton in the mix. Hayton has flown under many radars, but it finally seems he’s getting the attention he deserves.
With the additions of veterans Jason Zucker, Matt Dumba, and Troy Stecher, there is an influx of offensive talent, and the pressure is on Hayton. Not only is it on him to perform well, it’s to see if he can be a true first-line center in the NHL. Having a dynamic, high-paced player fill that role has been troublesome for the Coyotes for many seasons; however, Hayton is looking to show he can be that guy in 2023-24.
5 Underrated Coyotes in Franchise History
September 27, 2023 by Richard Jelinek
The Winnipeg Jets franchise has seen many changes in their franchise history. Those changes have included roster turnover, name changes, and different logos, but one consistent thing has been the longevity of the players. Some of those players have been through the best and worst that the organization has seen.
The Jets became the Phoenix Coyotes before the 1996-97 season, then became the Arizona Coyotes on June 27, 2014. The organization has seen better days and has struggled to make the playoffs in recent years, but the Jets and Coyotes do have players throughout the years who have made significant contributions to the success of the team. While many players have been through both lineups, there are five who stand out. We start with Dale Hawerchuk.
