PWHL Could Add to Arizona’s Rich History In Women’s Hockey
February 6, 2024 by Chase Beardsley
The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has started its inaugural season on a high note. The league has been able to bring over most if not all of the best women in the sport which is impressive considering it has never been done before. On top of that, viewership is great with the league streaming all their games for free on YouTube, and attendance is good as well with PWHL Minnesota breaking the attendance record for a professional women’s hockey team. PWHL Toronto is threatening to break the record again when they play in Scotiabank Arena.
The success of the league has already brought up the topic of expansion and interest from cities like Pittsburgh, Seattle, Chicago, Buffalo, and Detroit. While those cities will one day get a team, a city that hasn’t gotten a lot of looks is Phoenix and its metropolitan area. There are definitely a lot of advantages that the city has compared to others but of course, there are some challenges in bringing the PWHL all the way to the Valley of the Sun.
How Good are the Coyotes at the All-Star Break
February 2, 2024 by Cooper Krigbaum
Statistics speak volumes about how a certain thing is doing. In this piece, it’s about where the Arizona Coyotes stand in four major statistical categories: goals-against average (GAA), goals for per game (GF/G), power play (PP), and penalty kill (PK). In seasons prior to the 2023-24 campaign, it hasn’t always been pretty, and most of the time, the team was in the bottom half of nearly every statistical category.
This season has been a breath of fresh air, as many of these critical categories have vastly improved. The PP has taken a step forward, along with small baby steps by the PK. Like any NHL team, there have been plenty of ups and downs, but the Coyotes are growing and improving statistically.
Coyotes’ Continued Struggles Will Lead to Trade Deadline Sell-Off
January 31, 2024 by Haynes Evans
The NHL is approaching the 2024 All-Star Break and the Arizona Coyotes couldn’t be more thankful for it. After registering two big back-to-back wins against the Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins, the team hit a literal wall, dropping the final three games on their schedule before entering the break.
The Coyotes didn’t just lose though, they were embarrassed, point blank. They allowed six goals in back-to-back losses against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday (Jan. 24) and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday (Jan. 25). Two poor outings were followed up with quite possibly their worst performance of the season, a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday (Jan. 27), registering just one shot on goal in the third period.
