The Carolina Hurricanes are back in the win column! After a rough start to the season going 2-4 on the six-game road trip, the team comes home to start a back-to-back versus the Seattle Kraken. After going down 2-0 in the first period, the Hurricanes surged back and forced overtime.
In overtime, Martin Necas did what he did best last season, win the whole dang thing as he scores the game-winning goal to get the Hurricanes back to 4-4 on the season. His goal in overtime would be his second of the game and his third point on the night.
Jesperi Kotkaniemi would get two points as well. He tallied a goal and an assist on the night to secure five points for 2/3rds of their line versus the Kraken. What else stood out from the game tonight? Let’s take a look:
Frederik Andersen stood tall after going down 2-0 early in the first period
Hurricanes penalty kill went 1.000 on the night. Power-play went 0-for-1.
Brady Skjei with the steal and breakout that led to the game-tying goal from Kotkaniemi
Hurricanes outshot the Kraken 45-26
Dmitry Orlov had his best game as a Hurricane
Carolina is now 2-0 at home to start the season
This game was what the Hurricanes wanted to see from the team. Despite being down 2-0 early, they stormed back to tie it in the third period and win it in overtime. While there is still some work to be done, the effort was significantly better the last time these two teams met last Thursday, Oct. 19 in Seattle.
Overall, Carolina looked like their former selves outshooting their opponents and being aggressive on both sides of the ice. While there is still work to be done to simplify their game, this was a good step in the right direction. Carolina will take on the San Jose Sharks on Friday, Oct. 27 to finish the back-to-back at home. Can they beat the Sharks again like they did back in San Jose?
