3 Takeaways From Sharks’ 6-2 Loss to Avalanche
December 18, 2023 by William Espy
The San Jose Sharks were in Denver, Colorado to take on the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday (Dec. 17). Eventually, they ended up losing 6-2, but it was quite a journey to get there.
Jacob MacDonald got a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding less than three minutes into the game which gave the Avalanche an early advantage with a long power play. A week ago, that hit likely would’ve been a minor penalty at most, but following the events of last weekend, including the David Perron and Erik Gudbranson incidents, it seems like the officials are cracking down on certain things.
San Jose Sharks Being Rewarded for Patience with David Quinn
December 15, 2023 by William Espy
Many began questioning the coaching staff when the San Jose Sharks were in the middle of their losing streak to open the season. In particular, the head coach, David Quinn, had quite a few fans calling for his job. General manager Mike Grier decided to be patient and not make a rash decision, now the Sharks are benefitting as a result.
San Jose Sharks Defeat Winnipeg Jets 2-1: 3 Takeaways
December 13, 2023 by William Espy
The San Jose Sharks returned to the SAP Center following their six-game road trip on Tuesday (Dec. 12) to face off against the Winnipeg Jets. The Jets entered the night with a record of 16-8-2 and 34 points, which was enough to be third in the Central Division. The Sharks on the other hand had a record of 8-17-3 and a total of 19 points. They were looking to drag themselves out of last place in the league for the first time this season.
Duclair, Hoffman and Granlund Essential to Sharks’ Turnaround
December 12, 2023 by Alex Hutton
When the San Jose Sharks overhauled large portions of their roster this offseason, they probably knew there would be an adjustment period. Mike Hoffman, Anthony Duclair and Mikael Granlund headlined a forward overhaul with plenty of games played but little cohesion. With so many new players who had never played together, they took time to get used to their new situation.
They had a lot of NHL experience, but not in circumstances as dire as those of San Jose’s. The result was underperformance across the board and an 0-10-1 record through 11 games. But since then, as the veteran additions have improved, so has the team. As they contribute far more and set the tone offensively, their impacts can be felt right now and will continue to resonate throughout the rest of the season.
