June 24, 2024 by Jacob Billington
In this edition of the Senators News & Rumors, we look at the prospect of a Travis Hamonic buyout, more goaltending options, including John Gibson, Erik Brannstrom and Egor Sokolov on the trade block, and much more.
Senators Should Stick with Joonas Korpisalo as Starting Goalie
June 23, 2024 by Paul Quinney
My golfing buddies and I always enjoy a frosty pint or two after our weekly round at Pakenham Highlands Golf Club in the beautiful Ottawa Valley. After debating how some of us “woulda’, coulda’ and shoulda’” scored better, the discussion often turns to solving the world’s problems. This week, there was no more pressing problem than the Ottawa Senators’ goaltending situation.
Senators Should Target Jets’ McGroarty & Ehlers
June 23, 2024 by Jacob Billington
There are plenty of trade rumors involving the Ottawa Senators right now, including a potential deal for Boston Bruins goaltender Linus Ullmark and a trade brewing with the Philadelphia Flyers. Senators general manager Steve Staios is undoubtedly one of the busiest in the league right now, but one other trade he should consider making is with the Winnipeg Jets by acquiring forwards Nikolaj Ehlers and Rutger McGroarty.
Ottawa Senators’ First-Round Draft Targets – Beckett Sennecke
June 21, 2024 by Dayton Reimer
Top-pairing defencemen aren’t the only prospects the Senators have been connected to. Their forward core is strong up front but lacks depth in almost every area, especially on the right side. That’s led to some speculation that they might be interested in Tij Iginla, who I profiled last week as a potential target, as well as one of the hottest risers heading into the draft, Beckett Sennecke, who took off at the end of the season and now could be a top-12 pick.
Ottawa Senators Sign Jamieson Rees to 1-Year Deal
June 21, 2024 by Jacob Billington
The Ottawa Senators have signed Jamieson Rees to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 in the NHL. He was previously acquired by the Senators in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes, with the Hurricanes receiving a sixth-round draft pick.
It is no secret that production-wise, a season like Rees had is about as disappointing as it gets. Despite that, there is still a potential future in the NHL for him. One year in a player’s development path doesn’t make or break their career by any means.
