Hurricanes’ 2024 Draft Target: Edmonton Oil Kings’ Adam Jecho
May 23, 2024 by Zach Martin
The exit interviews and the end-of-season press conference with general manager Don Waddell and head coach Rod Brind’Amour are officially over for the Carolina Hurricanes. All eyes for the organization now turn to the 2024 NHL Entry Draft that will be held at The Sphere in Las Vegas, NV on June 28-29. The Hurricanes will have the 27th overall pick in the first round, and there are some questions on who they could take at that pick. In the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, they selected Bradly Nadeau from the Penticton Vees of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).
Don Waddell Leaves a Meaningful Legacy With the Hurricanes
May 25, 2024 by Zach Martin
In a surprising turn of events, Don Waddell is no longer the president and general manager (GM) of the Carolina Hurricanes. On Friday morning (May 24), owner and governor of the Hurricanes, Tom Dundon, announced that Waddell resigned from his position on the team. It sent shockwaves through the fanbase despite knowing that Waddell’s contract was expiring this offseason. One has to wonder, why now with just five weeks until the NHL Entry Draft and what caused this change to happen?

2 Trade Destinations for Hurricanes’ Martin Necas
May 28, 2024 by Zach Martin
What a few days it’s been for Carolina Hurricanes forward Martin Necas. After being eliminated from the 2024 NHL Playoffs in the second round versus the New York Rangers, the 25-year-old Czechia native returned to his home country to compete in the 2024 IIHF Men’s World Championship. In five games playing for his country, he had seven points and helped lead Czechia to a gold medal. He scored the game-winning goal in their 4-2 win over Sweden to make it to the final. In the gold medal game, Czechia went on to win 2-0 over Switzerland to claim their first first-place spot since the late 1980s. To go from being eliminated from the NHL Playoffs to a gold medal winner is one way to make your summer enjoyable. However, the 2024-25 season will be here before we know it and the main question that keeps swirling around Necas is whether he will be with the Hurricanes come opening night.
Hurricanes’ Jaccob Slavin Earns Well-Deserved Second Lady Byng Trophy
May 31, 2024 by Zach Martin
The NHL announced Thursday night (May 30) that Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin won the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for the 2023-24 season. The award is given annually to the player who best combines sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct with a high standard of playing ability. It is the second time Slavin has won the award, the first time back during the 2020-21 season. He has finished in the top five of Lady Byng voting in each of the last five seasons dating back to 2019-20. Back in 2020-21, he became only the fourth defenseman in NHL history to win the trophy. However, that is not all when it comes to history for the Erie, CO native when it comes to the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy.
Hurricanes’ 2024 Draft Target: Kingston Frontenacs’ Jacob Battaglia
May 31, 2024 by Zach Martin
One player the Hurricanes can take a look at with the 27th overall pick is the left-shot right-winger Jacob Battaglia of the Kingston Frontenacs. He is an 18-year-old from Mississauga, ON who played his second professional season with the Frontenacs in 2023-24. During his second season with Kingston, he tallied 31 goals and 65 points in 67 games while getting three goals and four points in five postseason games. It was a big jump in year two compared to year one where he finished with seven goals and 27 points in 66 games. In his two seasons in the OHL, he has 38 goals, 54 assists and 92 points in 133 games with Kingston.
